Jikiden Reiki UK Association Membership Terms and Conditions (Last Updated 07/06/2024)

1.    Application of terms and conditions 
1.1.    These terms and conditions (“Terms”) apply to membership of the Jikiden Reiki Association (“Membership”) operated by The Jikiden Reiki UK Association (“we” or “us”). By applying to be a member of our Membership, and gaining access to the resources we provide (“Materials”) you agree to the following Terms and that these prevail over any inconsistent terms or conditions contained, or referred to, elsewhere or as implied by law, trade custom, practice or course of dealing.  

1.2.    These Terms should be read in conjunction with our Website Terms of Use, Privacy Policy, and Acceptable Use Policy (all of which can be found on our website https://www.jikidenreikiuk.com  (“Site”). 

1.3.    Any content posted or submitted by you to our site or any social media group in the course of your Membership is subject at all times to the Acceptable Use Policy. 

1.4 The agreement is between us and you, the person or entity registering to be a member (“you”) and which is subject to these Terms (“Contract”), shall come into effect upon us emailing you to confirm our acceptance of your registration form for the membership and shall continue until terminated in accordance with these Terms. 

  1. The order process will be as follows: 
  1. click the pay now button and proceed to the checkout and make payment as directed; 
  1. we will send you an email acknowledging your order and confirming whether we have accepted your application. 
  1. If at any stage you have made an error in your order, you may email us at info@jikidenreikiuk.com  to correct any errors. 
  1. You should print a copy of these Terms for your records, as we may not be filing a copy and we may change these Terms from time to time. 
  1. Membership

2.1.  There is a single overall membership termed as ‘Practitioner’. For those who are Jikiden Reiki teachers, there is an additional level of membership termed ‘Teacher’ which has an additional level of access to teacher content within your membership account, provided at no extra cost. Details of what is included within your membership are listed on the Registration page and our websitehttps://www.jikidenreikiuk.com/membership/  The Jikiden Reiki UK Association committee reserves the right to adjust the content of the membership, including these Terms at any time. Any use of the Site or Service by you after being notified means you accept these amendments.  

2.2 We may also offer additional events, services, products, or information from ourselves, some services including in-person eventsand the Professional Practitioner Programme have additional costs.  

2.3 We may at our absolute discretion refuse membership to any person or entity and we shall not be obliged to state our reasons for such refusal. 

2.4 Memberships shall continue unless they are terminated by either of us in accordance with clause 6 below. Or you do not renew your membership at the next 12-month renewal cycle. 

2.5 You agree to keep user details and your password for the site confidential at all times and to not disclose them to any third party. You must notify us immediately if you become aware of any unauthorised use of your account and you shall indemnify us against all claims, damages, losses, costs, or expenses (including professional fees) and any other liability that arises from any unauthorised use of your account. 

2.6 The online Materials of the Membership are held on third-party secure servers and we have taken all reasonable steps to ensure that the online content will be available at all times during the course of the Membership but in the event that such content is not available in whole or in part at any time, or becomes corrupted, is deleted or is failed to be stored, we shall have no liability in any circumstances. 

2.7 You may only communicate with the other members in the membership for the purposes of making use of the membership and may not make unsolicited promotions of your goods or services to such members.  

2.8 Any digital Materials included in the Membership may require software such as Adobe Reader to access PDF content. A personal Zoom account would be required to attend online webinar events. 

2.9 The Materials we deliver as part of your Membership do not in any way constitute advice or recommendations. We are providing guidance only. We are not able to advise you on your individual circumstances. 

2.10 Membership requires agreement to abide by our Code of Conduct. Our code of conduct can be viewed at https://www.jikidenreikiuk.com/resources/#Code_of_Conduct The JRUKA committee reserves the right to delay or decline membership or renewal, if the requirements or the code of conduct or membership have not been met. 

 3.    Payment 

3.1.    The total price payable for the Membership is as set out on the Registration page. The payment covers an initial 12-month membership period. You may make payment via the methods that are specified on the order form. Payments will be set as recurring payments, a renewal payment for the next 12 months membership cycle will be taken once every 12 months, on your renewal date, 12 months from the date of your initial payment. You agree that we may take these payments automatically without any further consent or notice from you. We reserve the right to amend membership pricing at any time however any changes in pricing would only apply at the date of your next membership renewal. If you wish to continue to have access to the JRUKA events and Materials, you must renew your membership. Contact info@jikidenreikiuk.com with any renewal questions. 

3.2     The total price payable as set out on the Registration page is inclusive of VAT Value Added Tax. 

3.3    Membership payments, cannot be placed on hold or paused for any reason, and are non-transferable and non-refundable,other than as set out in paragraphs 6.2 and 6.3 below. 

  

4.    Our obligations 

4.1   We warrant to you that the Membership is of satisfactory quality and reasonably fit for the purpose for which you purchased the Membership. 

4.2    Other than as set out in paragraph 4.1 above, all warranties and representations are excluded to the fullest extent permitted by law.  

4.3    We will endeavor to ensure that all information that we provide is accurate and up-to-date but we shall not be liable for any claims arising from such information being inaccurate or not up-to-date or otherwise. 

4.4    You acknowledge that your personal data will be kept confidential and processed by and on our behalf of us. We will process your personal data in accordance with our Privacy Policy which can be viewed at https://www.jikidenreikiuk.com/privacy/  

5.    Intellectual Property 

5.1    We are the owner or the licensee of all Intellectual Property Rights and all other rights in the materials provided to you by us as part of the Membership (“Materials”) and all content within any Programme and nothing in these Terms or otherwise shall operate to transfer the ownership of the Intellectual Property Rights in the Materials or the content of any Programme to you or any other person. 

5.2  You may not at any time copy, reproduce, publish in any form, share, sell, dispose of, or otherwise make available to a third party in any way any of the Materials. 

5.3.    We grant to you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable, revocable license to use all or any of the Materials for the purposes for which the Membership was provided only. 

5.4.    Except as set out in paragraph 5.3, you may not use any of our intellectual property rights at any time except where duly licensed. Use of our logo is strictly prohibited without our prior written consent. 

5.5    You may not without our prior written consent make any audio or visual recordings of any part of our Materials, or events. 

5.6    We may from time to time record any or all any part of the Materials being delivered during your attendance.  You authorise us to use your image and voice in any such recordings (and to make use of the  recording in any way we think fit) without payment, other conditions, or the need for further consent. 

5.7   You acknowledge that certain information contained in the Materials is already in the public domain. 

5.8  You acknowledge that the ideas and concepts shared by us within the membership and the method of running the membership are proprietary to us and you shall not take any such ideas, concepts, or methods and use them in competition with us or for your own commercial gain. 

5.9    The provisions of this paragraph 5 shall survive termination of the Contract. 

6.    Term and termination 

6.1    The Contract shall continue until your membership expires. You can terminate your membership at each 12-month renewal cycle by stopping the auto-renewal payment any time before your next renewal date. If you cancel your renewal payment, your current Membership will run its course and end at your Membership renewal date.  

6.1.1 Your membership is likely set on an auto-renewal every 12 months ongoing. To prevent your membership from renewing you must cancel the auto-renewal payment before your next renewal date. It is your responsibility to check your renewal date, to check if your Membership is set to auto-renewal, and it is your responsibility to terminate these payments in advance of your renewal date. If you need help which any of these requirements contact info@jikidenreikiuk.com for instructions before your renewal date.  

6.1.2. If your renewal payment fails to be paid, your membership shall expire (and the Contract shall terminate) on the date falling 12 months after the date of your last payment, other than for the Terms that are specifically stated to remain in force which will survive termination of the Contract. Subject to paragraph 6.2 above, no refunds will be provided. 

6.2   If you are purchasing as a consumer (as defined in the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation, and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 – namely you are buying the membership as an individual acting for purposes which are wholly or mainly outside of your trade, business, craft or profession, the following shall apply: 

6.2.1 you have the right to cancel this agreement within 14 days of the date of this agreement by emailing us at info@jikidenreikiuk.com or by using the cancellation form. https://www.jikidenreikiuk.com/download/cancellation-form/  To meet the cancellation deadline, it is sufficient for you to send your communication concerning your exercise of the right to cancel before the cancellation period has expired. If you cancel this agreement, we will reimburse you all payments received from you in relation to the agreement within 14 days after the date on which we were informed about your decision to cancel this Contract; and 

6.2.2 notwithstanding paragraph 6.2.1 above, you agree that we may begin the supply of digital content not on a tangible medium before the end of the cancellation period set out in such paragraph and you acknowledge that you will lose your cancellation rights in relation to such digital content; and 

6.2.3 in relation to the provision of any services under this Contract: 

6.2.3.1 you hereby request immediate performance of the Contract and acknowledge that you will lose your right of withdrawal from the Contract once the service contract is fully performed; and 

6.2.3.2 if you cancel the Contract before the services have been fully performed, you agree that you will pay for the supply of the service for the period for which they are supplied. The amount payable will be in proportion to what has been supplied, in comparison with the full coverage of the Contract. 

 

6.3  If you are not purchasing the membership as a consumer, the above provisions shall not apply. 

6.4  The JRUKA committee reserves the right to cancel a membership at any time if the requirements of the code of conduct are not being adhered to, or the member is acting in a way that is damaging to the reputation of the Jikiden Reiki UK Association, or Jikiden Reiki. In such an event the member would be contacted by the JRUKA committee to aim to resolve any concerns. If any concerns are unable to be resolved any membership would be terminated and any payment would be forfeited by the member. 

6.5 Being a UK resident is a requirement of membership. It is your responsibility to inform us should you no longer be a UK resident. In the event you are no longer a UK resident your membership shall be terminated and no refund would be given. 

6.6    Paragraphs which expressly or by implication have effect after termination of the Contract shall continue in full force and effect after the date of termination of the Contract. 

6.7    This paragraph 6 shall survive termination of the Contract. 

6.8    Where the Contract expires, this shall be treated as a termination for the purposes of all paragraphs that refer to “termination”. 

7.    Liability 

7.1    We shall not be liable for any loss of profits, loss of business, depletion of goodwill and/or similar losses, loss of anticipated savings, loss of goods, loss of contract, loss of corruption of data or information, or any special, indirect, consequential or pure economic loss, costs, damages, charges or expenses suffered or incurred by you as a result of you entering into the Contract and/or us providing the Membership. 

7.2    Our total liability in contract, tort (including negligence or breach of statutory duty), misrepresentation, restitution, or otherwise arising in connection with the performance or contemplated performance of the Contract shall in all circumstances be limited to the price paid by you for the Membership. 

7.3    If we are prevented from or delayed in performing our obligations by your act or omission or by any circumstance outside of our control (including illness or incapacity), we shall not be liable to you for any costs, charges, or losses sustained or incurred by you that arise directly or indirectly from such prevention or delay. 

7.4 We may provide you with details of additional events, services, products, or information from selected third parties that are supportive of the main membership service we provide, that we feel might be of interest to you. The Site and the Membership may contain links to third-party websites and resources. You acknowledge and agree that we are not responsible or liable for the availability, accuracy, content, or policies of third parties, their websites, or resources. Links to such websites or resources do not imply any endorsement by or affiliation with the JRUKA. You acknowledge sole responsibility for and assume all risk arising from your use of any such websites or resources.  

7.5 The optional JRUKA public directory uses a third-party resource, as such we have no control over that resource, nor do we have any control over the information you place in the public domain through that third-party resource. By using this part of the Service, you acknowledge and agree that JRUKA is not responsible or liable for any part of that resource, or the information you place in the public domain. 

7.6    We may, without any liability to you or any obligation to make a refund, make changes to (i) the Membership, (ii) any of the Materials, (iii) the location of venues, (iv) the time and date of sessions, (v) persons conducting any event (vi) the modality of delivery of the membership. 

7.7    Nothing in this paragraph 7 shall limit our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence or for our fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation or for any matter for which it would be illegal for us to exclude, or attempt to exclude our liability. 

7.8    The provisions of this paragraph 7 shall survive termination of the Contract. 

7.9    You acknowledge and agree that: 

7.9.1.    The Contract constitutes the entire agreement and understanding between us and supersedes any previous arrangement, understanding, or agreement between us relating to the provision of the Membership (which shall be deemed to have been terminatedby mutual consent); 

7.9.2.    in entering into the Contract you have not relied on any undertaking, promise, assurance, statement, representation, warranty, or understanding (whether in writing or not) of any person (whether party to the Contract or not) relating to the provision of the Membership other than as expressly set out in the Contract. 

7.10 If there happens to be a service disruption, please contact us at info@jikidenreikiuk.com  as soon as possible and give us a reasonable opportunity to resolve the problem. We will make every effort to aim to resolve any issues within 14 days. If we are unable to deliver the service due to circumstances beyond our reasonable control, we shall inform the user as soon as reasonably possible. We will not be liable to the user or be deemed to be in breach of the Contract because of any delay in performing, or any failure to perform, any of our obligations concerning the Service, if the delay or failure was due to any cause beyond our reasonable control.  

  1. Waiver 

8.1 If we fail, at any time during the term of a Contract, to insist upon strict performance of any of your obligations under the Contract or any of these terms and conditions, or if we fail to exercise any of the rights or remedies to which we are entitled under the Contract, this shall not constitute a waiver of such rights or remedies and shall not relieve you from compliance with such obligations.  

 8.2.1.  A waiver by us of any default shall not constitute a waiver of any subsequent default.  

 8.2.2. No waiver by us of any of these terms and conditions shall be effective unless it is expressly stated to be waived and is communicated to you in writing in accordance with clause 8 above.

  2. 9. If any of these terms and Conditions or any provisions of a Contract are determined by any competent authority to be invalid, unlawful, or unenforceable to any extent, such term, condition or provision will to that extent be severed from the remaining terms, conditions, and provisions which will continue to be valid to the fullest extent permitted by law.

10.    General 

10.1    By applying for Membership, you warrant that: 

10.1.1.    You are legally capable of entering into binding contracts; and 
10.1.2.    You are at least 18 years old; a UK resident; and 
10.1.3.    That all information you provide us with is materially true and accurate at all times and not misleading in any way. 

10.2 You may not transfer any of your rights or obligations under these Terms to another person without our prior written consent. We can transfer all or any of our rights and obligations under these Terms at any time. 

10.3 All notices sent by you to us must be sent to the Jikiden Reiki UK Association, at info@jikidenreikiuk.com   

  1. If any court (or other competent authority) decides that any of the provisions of these Terms are invalid, unlawful, or unenforceable to any extent, the term will, to that extent only, be ‘severed’ from the remaining terms, which will continue to be valid to the fullest extent permitted by law. 
  1. We may vary these Terms (other than the price payable by you for the Membership) as we see fit from time to time and if we do, we shall notify you by email of the change of terms. Your continuation with the Membership will be deemed to be your acceptance of any new Terms. 
  1. You accept that communication with us will be mainly electronic.  We will contact you by e-mail or provide you with information by posting notices on our site.  You agree to this electronic means of communication and you acknowledge that all contracts, notices, information, and other communications that we provide to you electronically comply with any legal requirement that such communications be in writing.  This condition does not affect your statutory rights. 
  1. A person who is not party to these Terms shall not have any rights under or in connection with them under the Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Act 1999. 
  1. These Terms and any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with it shall be governed by English law and you and we both agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts.  

Jikiden Reiki UK Association
Code of Ethics and Conduct for the Practice and Teaching of Jikiden Reiki

PURPOSE

1.     To detail the high standards of conduct Jikiden Reiki practitioners and teachers who are members of the JRUKA Association agree to abide by.

2.     To inform and protect members of the public receiving and using Reiki as well as members of the JRUKA.

All members of the Jikiden Reiki UK Association have agreed to uphold these codes of ethics and conduct. It is the responsibility of each individual member to read and understand this document, and to stay informed of any current legislation and local by-laws.

Throughout this document, the term practitioner refers to any individual working with people or animals. The term client refers to people or animals and the person responsible for the animal in question. Medical care refers to either human medical care or professional veterinary treatment.

ETHICAL PRINCIPLES

Jikiden Reiki UK Association holds these ethical principles in high esteem. All members agree to uphold them to the best of their ability.

Expectations of Members within JRUKA 

  1. All members are to be respectful in all communications and interactions with the JRUKA committee, management team, helpers, guests, speakers and other members, be that online or in-person. 
  2. The JRUKA is a membership organisation for those who practice Jikiden Reiki and as such, all members are expected to be respectful towards Jikiden Reiki. 
  3. All members agree to abide by the Jikiden Reiki Institute guidelines. 

CODE OF CONDUCT FOR PRACTITIONERS

Values

Jikiden Reiki Practitioners shall

1.     give Reiki to clients with respect for their dignity and individual needs without judgement or discrimination concerning race, colour, creed, disabilities, gender and sexual orientation

2.     provide clear comprehensible information to allow clients (client’s representative in the case of animals) to make informed choices relating to the use of Reiki as an aspect of their care

3.     agree to respect medical and veterinary professionals’ opinions and acknowledge and respect other practitioners and disciplines

4.     respect the client’s right to choose their own path of healing and refrain from any attempts at persuasion or coercion

5.     act honestly and maintain professional integrity

6.     practice within the boundaries of their competence and qualifications

7.     endeavour to gain and maintain the trust of clients and their representatives (in the case of animals) and the general public, through honesty and integrity

8.     agree to keep all client’s information, obtained in writing and verbally, confidential -unless required to disclose it by law

9.     be empathetic, supportive and positive when engaging with clients, while allowing them to make their own choices regarding health and lifestyle

10.  respond promptly to concerns, criticisms and complaints, answering to the best of their ability, with integrity and honesty

11.  when working with animals, respect an animal’s choice to accept Reiki, allowing them to lead the session and move away if they prefer

12.  when working with animals, agree to acknowledge that the owner’s emotions and behaviours may be relevant to the animal’s issue. When deemed necessary, the practitioner will discuss this with the animal’s owner as they may also require Reiki to ensure the issue is fully addressed

13. Agree to comply with relevant legislation, and UK criminal and civil law

14. Consider your personal ‘fitness to practice’ at all times when working with members of the public. Members of JRUKA must ensure that they are responsible for their fitness to practice before any treatment. This would include:  Being unwell 
Aware of any ongoing mental health, emotional and physical issues 
Maintaining self-practice and receiving regular Reiki for themselves 

15. If you receive a complaint from a member of the public or organisation you should make JRUKA aware

Insurance

Jikiden Reiki Practitioners shall

1.     have a valid insurance policy for professional and voluntary Jikiden Reiki treatments with the public, stating provision for public liability, professional indemnity and where relevant including employee liability

2.     ensure, if practicing from home, they are adequately insured for their clients

3.     consult with the insurance company regarding cover for animal treatments if treating them on a paid basis beyond treatments for family and friend’s animals

Contracts

Jikiden Reiki Practitioners must

1.     display or have readily available their certification from the Jikiden Reiki Kenkyukai head office in Kyoto

2.     provide full and clear explanations, in writing or verbally, regarding the nature of the treatment, treatment procedure, length of treatment, charges, any records kept and confidentiality. Any revisions, for example, to charges or length of treatment shall be agreed by both parties in advance of the change.

3.     gain written consent from the client, a parent, guardian, carer, medical/veterinary practitioner as appropriate. The wishes of the recipient regarding the provision of Reiki must override any consent of a third party

4.     inform the client or client’s representative before a session if they are going to use any treatment or therapy in addition to Reiki

5.     have the same consideration and obligation to the client whether being paid or giving a treatment voluntarily

6.     not claim or imply to have a ‘cure’ for any medical conditions

7.     recognise the client’s right to refuse Reiki and ensure they or their representative are able to make informed choices regarding their healthcare

8.     In accordance with GDPR regulations, only use digital images, video, audio recording, or any written account, for example a testimonial from a client with clear, written consent from the client regarding the exact use of the material (evidence of consent can be gained and stored in a hardcopy format or electronically). You also honor the clients legal right to withdraw their consent for its use at any time in the future.

9.     maintain the right to stop, refuse or postpone treatment, provided the reason is made clear to the client, if

  • the client is under the influence of alcohol or any mind-altering substances
  • the client behaves in any way that leads the practitioner to feel unsafe, disrespected or abused
  • the client is intimidating or offensive in a physical, sexual or verbal manner
  • the client is late for the agreed treatment time
  • symptoms are evident of a disease that requires notification
  • matters are evident that must be legally reported

Client Assessment

Jikiden Reiki Practitioners shall

1.     not persuade the client that Reiki should take the place of conventional medical treatment

2.     assess the information the client is willing to give regarding their health prior to treatment then discuss any appropriate aftercare and recommended further treatment at the end of the session

3.     ask clients or their representatives what medical or veterinary diagnoses and advice they have received. It is the client or representative’s choice how much or little to disclose. Where appropriate, they should be advised to consult a GP or Veterinarian. It is legal to refuse medical treatment so no client can be forced to consult a doctor

4.     not advise clients to discontinue prescribed medication but where appropriate, advise them to consult their doctor about any possible changes

5.     advise clients only within their professional expertise

Client Records

Jikiden Reiki Practitioners shall

1.     maintain accurate, factual client records including any relevant personal information from the client or client’s representative, any relevant medical or veterinary information and details of all treatments, byosen levels and key areas, and any suggestions given to the client.

2.     Keep client records in safe custody for no less than seven years from the date of the last consultation

3.     Appoint an appropriate person to dispose of all records in the event of any serious incapacity or the death of the Reiki practitioner 

Confidentiality

Jikiden Reiki Practitioners must

1.     keep all information regarding clients’ personal information, their attendance and treatment information entirely confidential. No disclosure shall be made to a third party without the clients or client’s representative’s consent unless the practitioner is required to do so by law. Clients have rights of access to their own health records in accordance with the requirements of the law.

2.     adhere to the current Data Protection Act and current relevant legislation regarding the storage of data.

3.     Inform all their clients when selling or transferring their practice to another practitioner. No client records or information may be passed on to another practitioner without the client or client’s representative’s consent

Premises

Jikiden Reiki Practitioners shall

1.     ensure that their working conditions and the facilities for members of the public are suitable and comply with all legislation at any premises they work from. This includes those working from their own homes who should check any local authority by-laws. This applies equally when working with human clients and animal clients.

2.     pay attention to insurance requirements and cover, local government regulations and the terms of their lease or title deeds when working from home. This applies when working with humans and animals

3.     comply with national and local regulations, and have adequate insurance cover regarding the safety of any staff employed on the premises

4.     be aware of current Health and Safety legislation and their responsibilities therein whether employer, employee or self-employed

Boundaries

Jikiden Reiki Practitioners shall

1.     conduct a relationship with the client, their dependants and other healthcare professionals, of the highest professional standard demonstrating conscientiousness, care and integrity at all times.

2.     not exploit their clients financially, sexually, emotionally or in any other way

3.     agree not to begin a new sexual relationship of any kind with a client currently in their care

4.     Ensure the client knows that Reiki does not require removal of clothing other than footwear and coats.

5.     Respect the client’s choices and refrain from undermining a client’s faith, beliefs or religion

6.     be without judgement concerning race, colour, creed, gender or sexual orientation according to the values above

7.     reserve the right to refuse or stop treatments if the client behaves in an inappropriate fashion in accordance with the Contracts (i) section above

8.     never attempt to diagnose a medical condition as part of the practice of Reiki

9.     not prescribe or sell remedies and health products as part of the practice of Reiki

10.  refer clients back to their doctor or veterinarian if medical advice is sought. They shall not revoke prescriptions or override instructions given by medical professionals

11.  work only within their own scope of practice, referring clients elsewhere when deemed necessary

12.  never lead a client to continue treatments purely for their own personal gain

13.  when appropriate, suggest the client or a family member learn Reiki to continue treatments at home

Soliciting of Clients

Jikiden Reiki Practitioners shall not actively encourage clients away from from other professional colleagues 

Responsibility to self and others

Jikiden Reiki Practitioners shall

1.     recognise the value of self-treatment and receiving Reiki from others as part of their continuing self-development

2.     endeavour to follow the practice of the gokai as part of their commitment to themselves and to Reiki

3.     understand that their continued development as a Jikiden Reiki practitioner includes a commitment to self-development and a deepening of connection with the natural world

4.     continue to study and practice feeling byosen until they feel fully confident in using it to guide treatments

5.     continue to receive reiju as and when they can

6.     be aware of their own physical, mental and emotional health and take steps to resolve any problems that may interfere with their ability to practice competently

7.     encourage accurate understanding of Reiki in all fields and modalities within the healthcare sector

Jikiden Reiki Practitioners shall

1.     agree to abide by the Jikiden Reiki Institute Head Office regulations they signed when learning Jikiden Reiki:

·       The shirushi, Jumon and any contents of the manual or seminar shall not be revealed to those who have not attended the Jikiden Reiki Training

·       Any publications, photos or seminar content shall not be revealed, loaned to any third party or made available on the internet

·       Jikiden Reiki shall not be taught mixed with other kinds of Reiki or taught by anyone other than Shihankaku and Shihan approved by the Jikiden Reiki Institute, Japan

CODE OF CONDUCT FOR TEACHERS

All of the above code of conduct for Practitioners applies to Teachers when giving Reiki and when teaching Reiki. In addition:

Values

Jikiden Reiki Teachers shall

1.     respect fellow Jikiden Reiki teachers and see them as co-workers in a non-competitive manner

2.     teach students with respect for their dignity and individual needs without judgement or discrimination concerning race, colour, creed, disabilities, gender and sexual orientation

3.     be encouraging, supportive and positive when teaching students, giving them information while allowing them to make their own choices regarding health and lifestyle

4.     Teach with integrity and honesty, acknowledging and honouring the original teachers of Reiki

Insurance

Jikiden Reiki Teachers must ensure they are adequately insured to teach Reiki as well as practice Reiki

Jikiden Reiki Regulations

Jikiden Reiki Teachers shall

1.     agree to abide by the Jikiden Reiki Institute Head Office regulations they signed when taking the Practitioner levels, Shihan Kaku and Shihan Training.

2.     teach Jikiden Reiki according to the curriculum given by the Japanese Head Office in order to ensure the original content taught in Jikiden Reiki remains complete the world over

3.     not add new content to the Jikiden Reiki Training or mix it with other kinds of Reiki

4.     honour the confidential information taught regarding Reiju and not reveal the contents to anyone who has not taken the Jikiden Reiki Shihankaku Training

5.     not allow students to use video or audio recording of the training for any purpose

6.     remind students during the training of the Jikiden Reiki Head Office regulations regarding photographing the scroll and the official photographs

Responsibility to self and students

Jikiden Reiki Teachers shall

1.     maintain the highest professional standards of teaching, through continued study, regular practice and comprehensive knowledge of Jikiden Reiki

2.     honour their responsibility to their students

3.     be available following training courses to offer a reasonable level of support to answer students’ questions to the best of their ability

4.     refer a student to another Jikiden Reiki teacher should there be a breakdown in communication

5.     hold Jikiden Reiki shares and Reiju kai for their students or direct them to other Jikiden Reiki teachers’ events.

6.     acknowledge and respect other teachers and disciplines

7.     keep all student information confidential unless required by law to do otherwise

8.     comply with the current Data Protection Act and relevant legislation regarding the storage and use of student information

9.     inform students of the Accredited Practitioner course and status

10.  encourage students to study basic anatomy and have an understanding of the physiology of the human body

11.  retain the right to refuse a student access to the training provided a clear explanation is given if

  • the student is under the influence of alcohol or any mind-altering substances
  • the student behaves in any way that leads the teacher or other students to feel unsafe, disrespected or abused
  • the student is intimidating or offensive in a physical, sexual or verbal manner
  • the student is extremely late in arriving
  • the student has not completed the previous level in Jikiden Reiki Training
  • the student has broken one of the regulations they signed at the beginning of the course

Soliciting of students

Jikiden Reiki Teachers shall not actively encourage students away from other teachers

Continued Learning

Jikiden Reiki Teachers are expected to

1.     remain up to date with Institute requirements regarding continued training

2.     stay in connection with the JRUKA to remain up to date with the latest information

3.     use Reiki regularly with clients and themselves in addition to teaching Jikiden Reiki to ensure they are practicing what they teach

4.     continue deepening their relationship with and practice of the gokai

5.     endeavour to have some understanding of Japanese culture that deepens their connection to and understanding of Reiki

FORMAL CARE AND HEALTH CARE SETTINGS

Reiki in Formal Care settings

1.     The care setting is responsible for the client, Jikiden Reiki Practitioners shall comply with the rules of the establishment when giving Reiki

2.     Jikiden Reiki Practitioners may only give Reiki in care settings with permission from the client or those authorised to make decisions on their behalf

3.     Jikiden Reiki Practitioners shall not give the impression they are a staff member of the facility. Practitioners should have some form of identification on them

4.     If a prospective client in a care setting has an undiagnosed medical condition or health issue, the client should be referred to a medical professional for examination and diagnosis. Reiki can be offered as first aid and for comfort whilst waiting for the diagnosis or for emergency care

5.     Reiki shall be conducted with minimal interruption to other patients, residents and staff

6.     If other patients/residents in the facility request treatment, the permission of the nursing officer/doctor or person in charge must be obtained before treatment is given

REIKI AND THE LAW

Advertising

1.     It is illegal to offer treatments and cures for cancer – Reiki can be given but practitioners cannot claim to specifically treat cancer or give advice to those with a cancer diagnosis

1.     It is an offence to publish any advertisement that refers to any article calculated to lead to the use of Reiki in the treatment of cancer

2.     Advertising should not claim to diagnose or cure any disease or make any claims that could be considered medicinal claims. See the Advertising Standards Agency Code of Advertising Practice for further guidance

3.     Advertising shall not aim to mislead, deceive or make unrealistic claims. It shall be factual and although may point to special interests, cannot claim superiority or discredit professional colleagues in any discipline

4.     Content of advertisements and their distribution should not put pressure on prospective clients in any way

5.     Jikiden Reiki Practitioners and Teachers may only use the Jikiden Reiki UK Association logo to advertise Jikiden Reiki services. They may not use the Jikiden Reiki UK Association registration status to advertise any other product, remedy or service

6.     Unless a veterinary surgeon, it is illegal for Reiki Practitioners to perform any of the following:

  • The diagnosis of diseases and injuries in animals including tests performed on them for diagnostic purposes
  • The giving of advice based on such diagnosis
  • The medical or surgical treatment of animals
  • The performance of surgical operations on animals

Animals suspected of having a physical or mental condition or other health related issue should first be seen by a veterinary surgeon for diagnosis. Reiki Practitioners should comply with the Animal Welfare Act 2006 when offering Reiki to animals
